Three young musicians were selected on November
1st to perform with the Philharmonic at the annual Youth Concerts
in January 2009.
The Philharmonic's Young Artists' Competition
is held annually under the direction of Dr. Richard McGee as
an opportunity for talented students to perform with the Philharmonic.
LVP Principal Trumpet, Tom Wright and LVP violinist James Harvey
assisted Dr. McGee as this year's adjudicators.
The three winners are:
Violinist
Linda Duan, age 16, from the Las Vegas Academy performing
the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto and a student of LVP violinist
Rebecca Ramsey. |
Violinist
Tracy Bu, age 16, from the Odyssey Charter School performing
the Wieniawski Violin Concerto No. 2 and a student of UNLV
professor Wei Wei Le. |
Clarinetist
Vincent Camuglia, age 16, also from the Las Vegas Academy
performing the Weber Clarinet Concerto No. 1 and a student
on UNLV Professor Dr. Marina Sturm. |
The 2009 Youth Concerts are presented at the
Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall, UNLV on January 8,9,10, 13 and 14
for Clark County 4th and 5th graders and remain an important
part of the Philharmonic's ongoing educational outreach programs
across the Las Vegas valley.
